A 75-year-old man suffered serious injuries on Saturday after attempting to cross a road in the Larnaca district village of Ormidia while a charity cycle race was ongoing and being hit by an oncoming bicycle, the police said on Sunday.

The police said the incident occurred at around 5.30pm.

The 75-year-old was taken to the Larnaca general hospital, where it was found that he had suffered a cerebral haemorrhage as a result of the collision. He was then transferred to the Nicosia general hospital for further treatment.

Doctors there described his condition as “serious”.

The 38-year-old cyclist fell off his bicycle after the collision but suffered no serious injuries.

The police’s investigation into the matter is ongoing.
