Larnaca district court on Monday remanded two suspects for trying to smuggle large quantities of tobacco products at Larnaca airport on Sunday.
“In the luggage belonging to one of the passengers, 60 boxes of 200 cigarettes and 19.5 kilogrammes of rolling tobacco were found,” police said in a statement.
In the second passenger’s luggage another 112 boxes of 200 cigarettes and 9 kilogrammes of rolling tobacco were found.
According to the police the tobacco products did not bear any health hazard labels in Greek or Turkish.
The individuals, aged 62 and 77, were bound for a flight to the United Kingdom.
Both suspects have been arrested for flagrant offenses. Their luggage has been confiscated.
Investigation into the case is ongoing.
