The electricity authority of Cyprus (EAC) announced on Tuesday the next phase in the mass installation of smart meters, targeting homes and businesses across all districts from May 27 until mid-June.
The new rollout covers several neighbourhoods in Nicosia, Limassol, Larnaca, Paphos and the Famagusta district. The EAC confirmed that a short power interruption, lasting no more than 20 minutes, is necessary for the safe replacement of each meter.
In Nicosia, installations will take place in Strovolos, including the areas between Athalassa avenue, Akropoleos avenue, Ifigenia and Armenia streets, and Limassol avenue. Specific focus will be placed between the roads of Ifigeneias, Armenias, Arsinóis and Akropoleos, and the zone bounded by Nikis avenue, Kyriakou Matsi avenue, and Makarios III hospital avenue.
From June 2, single-phase smart meters will be introduced in more Nicosia districts. These include the Lakatamia area near the Jumbo store and the community swimming pool, on both sides of the Pedieos river, bordered by Spyrou Kyprianou avenue and Agiou Georgiou street. Installations will also resume in Strovolos, between Spyrou Kyprianou avenue, Strovolou avenue, and Machaira and Kantaras streets.
In Limassol, the installations will be carried out in the Agios Athanasios industrial area and southeast of it, between the motorway and Vasileos Georgiou I street near the coastal road. In Larnaca, the smart meters will be fitted from the castle area to Mackenzie beach. This includes the areas surrounding Piale Pasha street, Faneromeni avenue, and Artemidos avenue.
The Famagusta district is also included in this phase. In Paralimni, installations will be made along 1st April avenue, from the Kokkinos supermarket up to the roundabout heading to Deryneia. In Protaras, works will cover the coastal stretch of Protaras, Cape Greco Avenue, ending near the Narcissos hotel.
Paphos will see smart meters fitted in the north-western area of Stelios Kyriakides stadium. This includes the streets between Athinon avenue, Griva Digeni avenue, 1st April street, Kinyra street, Ampelokipon street, Alexandrou Papagou street, and Demokratias avenue. The EAC apologised for any inconvenience caused by the temporary power outages, and assured the public that the upgrade will offer long-term benefits including better energy monitoring and improved service.
