Nicosia court on Wednesday ordered the eight-day detention of the two arrested 18-year-olds who appeared before it in connection with Sunday’s attack on the Omonia fan club in Lakatamia.

However, the court did not approve the police’s request to detain the 51-year-old man arrested in the same investigation, and he was subsequently released.

The suspects are being investigated for a range of offences, including conspiracy to commit a felony, unlawful entry, causing a disturbance, malicious damage, being armed with intent to commit a felony, carrying a weapon to incite terror and assault causing actual bodily harm.

On Tuesday, two other men, aged 40 and 22, were remanded for eight days in connection with the same incident.

The attack took place at around 10pm on Sunday, shortly after a match between Omonia and Apoel. Approximately 30 individuals, some wearing clothing associated with rival football team Apoel, stormed the fan club premises, assaulted staff, and caused damage. Three people were injured.

Video footage recorded outside the building showed two cars approaching the area, leading to the arrest of their owners. One of the suspects, the younger of the two, claimed he had no involvement in the attack.

Police said dozens more suspects are still being sought.

The Nicosia CID is continuing its investigations.
